Shieldhall is central to many local gardens. Kirkharle, which is now being landscaped with a lake to Capability BrownÕs 18C design (is due to open by Easter 2100) and Wallington with its walled garden and woodland walks are each less than a mile away. Belsay Castle with its quarry garden and the more formal, Herterton House Gardens are each only a 5 minute drive away. Alnwick, Cragside, Howick, Bideawee, Longframlington, Chesters and others are all within easy reach.

Guests stay in the recently converted courtyard buildings. Each room has its own entrance, is centrally heated and has its own large bathroom. Guests also enjoy sitting in the library and lounge where pre dinner drinks are served. Just out of the courtyard there is a walk around ten acres of parkland with a stream, young woodland & natural meadow.
